Let's kick off the Atmosphere Hamburg meetup! We'll explore the Authenticated Transfer Protocol (ATproto), the technical foundation of Bluesky.
Bluesky is an open social network designed for high scalability and multi-organizational operation, making it sustainable and resilient against hostile takeovers. This architecture ensures that the time and effort you invest in building your content and growing your connections remain secure and truly yours in the long run.
What makes it particularly compelling for developers is the promise of an open social web where user data ownership and decentralization are inherent features. This enables decentralized backends while maintaining a strong centralized user experience - meaning the decentralization doesn't compromise usability.
Even more fascinating is the ability to build fully custom applications using the AT Protocol as a data storage and social activity layer. There are already exciting examples in the wild, like recipe.exchange for sharing culinary creations, frontpage.fyi for news curation, and smokesignal.events for event discovery and planning.
At the meetup, we'll have a talk, potentially include live demos, and leave plenty of room for conversations. Our main goal is to establish a local community of interested people.
